    A custom stencil

A stencil is a thin plate with a design cut out: you lay it on a surface, paint over it and the design is left behind. It's great for labeling boxes, T-shirts, walls, planters, signs or your business logo.

Here you make one with your text or logo, and the tool handles the tricky part: the bridges.

    What bridges are for

When you cut out letters like O, A or B, their middle is left loose and would fall out. That's why stencils have bridges: thin strips that join those "islands" to the rest of the plate. The tool finds them on its own and adds a bridge going up.

If you want them less visible, make the bridges thinner under "More settings"; if the plate is big or you'll use it a lot, make them thicker.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is a stencil?

A painting template: a plate with a design cut out. You paint over it and the design is marked on the surface.

Why does my stencil have little strips in some letters?

Those are the bridges: they hold the middle of letters like O or A, which would otherwise fall out. After painting, you can touch up the bridge gap by hand if you like.

How big should I make it?

Letters at least 2 cm tall paint cleanly. If your printer is small, split the text across two plates.

Does it work for painting clothes?

Yes, with fabric paint and a sponge. Tape the plate down and put cardboard inside the garment so the paint doesn't bleed through.

Is my data uploaded to the internet?

No. The stencil is calculated in your browser; your text or logo isn't sent anywhere.

Why is there a download limit?

The tool is free and supported by ads. Each visit includes 5 downloads; to keep going, open the page again.
